Two Floridians are facing charges after they were accused of making a fake winning lottery ticket for a $1 million prize. According to WFLA, Escambia County sheriff's deputies arrested 42-year-old Kira Lee Enders and 32-year-old Dakota Von Jones, of DeFuniak Springs, on three charges, including forgery and larceny.
Authorities said the duo cut lottery tickets in half and pieced them together to make a winning scratch-off ticket. The suspects allegedly submitted the fake ticket with Enders' name on it to the Florida Lottery Office in Pensacola.
Lottery officials became suspicious and forwarded the case to the Escambia County Sheriff's Office. Deputies said the original tickets were purchased in DeFuniak Springs.
Online jail records show Enders and Jones were released on Sunday (April 10). They're due back in court on May 10.
There have been wild criminal stories involving lottery winners and prizes. Last year, a Florida woman was arrested for child neglect days after she claimed a $50,000 prize from a lottery game.
